MINUTES OF THE WESTON BOARD OF FINANCE ON MARCH 30, 2006

 

The Weston Board of Finance met on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at the Weston Intermediate School.  Members of the Board present were:  Messrs. Sargent, Atkinson, Nichols, Carter, O’Brien, Muller and Ms. Kopas.  Also present were:  Dr. Pierson, Supt of Schools; Richard Miller, Selectman; Mr. D. Whall, School Finance Dept.; Mrs. Diane Raymo, Interim Director of Finance and Operations; Board of Eduction members: Mrs. E. Uzenoff, Chairperson; Mr. P. Schaeffer, Vice-Chairperson; Mr. L. Wolf; Mrs. Lynn Kimberly; Mr. J. Fitzpatrick; Mrs. M. Kohler.  Also present was Dr.Wirtenberg, Townsperson.  Chairman Sargent called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm.

 

Chairman Sargent thanked the Board of Ed for their hospitality and graciousness in hosting this meeting at their premises this evening.  The entire Board of Finance offered their thanks for the gracious offer.  Mr. Sargent explained that the purpose of this meeting is to study the end of year report of the Board of Education Report ED001, so that the Board of Finance will understand it completely.  Dr. Pierson outlined what the Report ED001 is and what it covers and to whom it goes and what it shows.  Dr. Diane Ramos also addressed the meeting giving further information. She explained how the information was arrived at and where it is shown within the report and where the information comes from and how it is applied to produce the final report.  She also explained how the figures break down.  She further explained where the report goes and how it is used.  The Board of Ed provided a very useful guide to the ED001; - a copy of which is attached to these minutes for further reference.  Chairman Sargent explained how he came to understand this Report and its method of handling the information contained therein.  He said that the end result for the Board of Finance is to be able to interpret such a document, which takes a lot of time and research.  He felt that a more complete understanding of this document would help the Board explain this to the residents.

 

There was much discussion on the composition of this report and how the information can be used. Chairman Sargent said that if the members of this Board understand the information, we can support the information to the public.  He again extended his thanks to the Board of Ed for hosting this meeting and for sharing so much information with us.  Everyone was complimentary about getting together like this to enlighten all of us on what is going on and what the dollars are for and how  it all works out.

 

There being no further business to properly come before the Board at this time, the meting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
