Boards & Commissions

Elected Boards & Commissions  (for contact information  please refer to the Know Your Town Directory)

 

BOARD OF SELECTMEN: There shall be a Board of Selectmen consisting of the First Selectman and two additional members. No more than two members of such Board shall be members of the same political party.

BOARD OF EDUCATION: There shall be an elective Board of Education consisting of seven members, not more than four of whom shall be members of the same political party, each of whose term shall be four years.

BOARD OF FINANCE: There shall be an elective Board of Finance consisting of seven members, not more than four of whom shall be members of the same political party, each of whose term shall be six years. No member of the Board of Finance shall be a member of any other agency specifically named in the Weston Town Charter.

BOARD OF ASSESSMENT APPEALS: There shall be an elective Board of Assessment Appeals consisting of three members, not more than two of whom shall be members of the same political party, each of whose term shall be four years.

PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION: There shall be an elective Planning & Zoning Commission consisting of seven members, not more than four of whom shall be members of the same political party, each of whose term shall be four years.

ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS: There shall be an elective Zoning Board of Appeals consisting of five members, not more than three of whom shall be members of the same political party, and three alternate members, not more than two of whom shall be members of the same political party. At each biennial election, members shall be elected for a term of four years to succeed those whole terms shall have expired. Alternates shall be elected every four years.

BOARD OF POLICE COMMISSIONERS: There shall be an elective Board of Police Commissioners consisting of seven members, not more than four of whom shall be members of the same political party,. At each biennial election, members shall be elected for a term of four years to succeed those whole terms shall have expired. No member of the Board of Police Commissioners shall hold any paid or any other elective office of the Town of Weston.

LIBRARY BOARD: There shall be a Library Board of nine members, no more than five of whom shall be members of the same political party.

PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION: There shall be a Parks & Recreation Commission of seven members, no more than four of whom shall be members of the same political party.

CONSERVATION COMMISSION: There shall be a Conservation Commission consisting of seven members, not more than four of whom shall be members of the same political party. The Conservation Commission shall be the Town agency which implements “The Inland Wetlands and Water Courses Act” and all applicable regulations adopted pursuant thereto including those adopted by Town ordinance.

HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION: There shall be a Historic District Commission of five regular members, not more than three of whom shall be members of the same political party, and two alternate members, not more than one of whom shall be a member of the same political party, each of whose term shall be five years.  Historic District Application for Certificate of Appropriateness.

BUILDING BOARD OF APPEALS: There shall be a Building Board of Appeals of five members, not more than three of whom shall be members of the same political party, each of whose term shall be five years.

PANEL OF MODERATORS: There shall be a panel of moderators of four members, not more than two of whom shall be members of the same political party, each of whom shall serve for a term of four years. All reasonable steps should be taken to seek out qualified moderators for inclusion on the panel, and unaffiliated voters shall be invited to submit their names for consideration. Each moderator shall be an elector of the Town and shall have a working knowledge of or a demonstrable ability to easily comprehend basic parliamentary procedure and specifically, Robert’s Rules of Order.

COMMISSION ON AGING:  There is established a commission on aging consisting of seven members, who shall be electors of the town, appointed by the Board of Selectmen.  The members shall be persons interested in the consideration and solution of the problems of the aging.

SCHOOL AND GENERAL BUILDING COMMITTEE:  There shall be a School and General Building Committee for the town, consisting of seven members, not more than four of whom shall be members of the same political party.      

BOARD OF ETHICS:  There shall be established a Board of Ethics for the Town of Weston.  The Board shall consist of five members none of whom shall hold any elective or appointive Town office, or be an employee of the Town or be an officer of any political party.  The members shall be electors of the Town of Weston and shall be appointed by the Board of Selectmen.  No more than three members may be from the same political party.

COMMISSION FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH:  There shall be a Commission for Children and Youth consiting of seven adults, who shall be electors of the town, and four student commissioners all of whom have been appointed by the Selectmen. Additionally, there are ex-officio representatives from the school district and police department.

COMMISSION FOR THE ARTS:   There shall be a Commission for the Arts consisting of no more than twelve citizens appointed to provide arts events thoughout the year including but not limited to music, visual art, theater, film, and dance for the pleasure of the townspeople and others free of  charge. 

 LACHAT TOWN FARM COMMISSION: There shall be a Lachat Town Farm Commission of 9 members formed to establish appropriate policies and practices for the development and operation of the Lachat Town Farm, and to oversee the implementation of such policies and practices in a manner that will best serve the Town of Weston and its residents.  Lachat Town Farm Master Plan

Other Appointed Committees

COMMITTEE FOR VETERANS AFFAIRS:  There shall be a Committee for Veterans Affaors consisting of seven members appointed by the Selectmen.  The Committee shall suggest ways to maximize the recognition of Weston veterans and their contributions to freedom in America.  In addition, they should evalute the changes to CT State Laws which provide property tax exemptions for certain veterans.

TOWER COMMITTEE:  There shall be a Tower Committee consisting of ten members.

NATURE CENTER BUILDING COMMITTEE:  There shall be a Nature Center Building Committee consisting of three residents and three members of the Nature Conservancy.

IVA MOORE COTTAGE COMMITTEE:  There shall be an Iva Moore Cottage Committee consisting of five members to oversee the Iva Moore Cottage.

INSURANCE ADVISORY COMMITTEE:  There shall be an Insurance Advisory Committee consisting five members to analyze and make recommendations regarding the town's health, worker's compensation and property/liability coverage.

CEMETERY COMMITTEE:  There shall be a Cemetery Committee consisting of three members.  They shall evaluate options, recommend solutions and present their findings for a non-sectarian cemetery in Weston.

BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE:  There shall be Beautification Committee consisting of six members.

SELECT COMMITTEE FOR SUSTAINABILITY:  There shall be a SelectCommittee for Sustainability consisting of seven members formed to increase awareness of our impact on global warming; to encourage the community to establish reduction goals to conserve energy and reduce our consumption of fossil fuels; and to support Town initiatives to reduce the Town's energy consumption and CO2 emissions..
