WESTON, CT – What role did the Sloop of War – The Sally – play in Nathan Hale’s ill-fated spy mission? Join historian Edward Eckert on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 2:00pm at the Weston History & Culture Center, 104 Weston Road in Weston, CT for “The Sally – The Exciting Adventures of a CT Merchant Sloop During the American Revolution”. FREE event, registration required as seating is limited, register here: https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/weston-history-culture-center/the-sally-exciting-adventures-of-a-ct-merchant-sloop-during-the-american-revolution.

Experience the true story of the “Sally,” a Connecticut merchant sloop that was converted into a Continental Sloop of War. Discover Fairfield County’s maritime importance during this critical period of our nation’s history. Hear about the exploits of the Sally’s four successive captains, some of her crew and notable passengers, including Connecticut hero, Nathan Hale, as they dealt in espionage, raids against the enemy, and privateering along the treacherous “Devil’s Belt” of Long Island Sound. This event is part of the “Weston America 250: The Revolutionary Spirit Lecture Series”, co-sponsored by the Friends of the Weston Public Library, The Weston History & Culture Center and the League of Women Voters of Weston, with support from the Weston America 250 Advisory Group.

About the Presenter: Edward and Madeleine Eckert are American history researchers and enthusiasts who have been presenting slide lectures throughout Connecticut for over 20 years, encompassing topics that include Fairfield County history, the American Revolution, Civil War,

WWII, and the Creative Arts. The Eckerts have conducted Revolutionary War cemetery tours and walking tours and have written or have been featured in many newspaper articles. The article “Searching for African-American Patriots in a Connecticut Town” featured in American Spirit Magazine (Daughters of the American Revolution), Jan/Feb 2017, was written about them and their research. Edward is a Past President of Roger Sherman Branch #5, CTSSAR and Madeleine is Chaplain of Norwalk-Village Green Chapter, NSDAR. For their in-depth research on Nathan Hale and his spy mission, Edward received the Meritorious Service Medal and Madeleine received the Martha Washington Medal from the CTSSAR.
