FIRST SELECTWOMAN’S OPENING NOTE
June is such a special month in Weston! We have so many exciting things happening - from graduations to Father's Day to Pride Month. I just want to send my warmest wishes to everyone in our town who is celebrating something special this month. It's a time for coming together, sharing meals, and spreading kindness. I hope your celebrations are filled with joy and love.

 2:00 pm: From sea to shining sea, Weston joins the rest of our nation in ringing bells – cow bells, dinner bells or bike bells. Bells will ring 13 times at 2 pm. Join from wherever you are to celebrate Independence Day. 

5th of July: Kickball Tournament & Old-Fashioned Field Day at Morehouse Park
10:30 am – 2:00 pm: Kickball Tournaments/Games for all ages
11:00 am – 1:00 pm: Old Fashioned Field Day Games for all ages

AMERICA 250
It's not too late to order Weston Celebrates America 250 shirts, hats, sweats, baby clothes, mugs and more! Designed by a Weston resident, show your spirit by purchasing your swag ahead of time. And don't forget to participate in the Library's Weston Celebrates America 250/Summer Scavenger Hunt; materials can be downloaded here. Those who log their visits to all 16 historic locations in town will receive a commemorative Summer Challenge coin featuring Weston's America 250 logo. 

Though the July 4 weekend is the big show, the Semiquincentennial celebration continues all year long. Check the town website for the calendar of 250th events planned all the way through December. 

 

WESTON CELEBRATES 250 SUMMER SCAVENGER HUNT
May 22 through August 14
There are many special places in Weston and some may even surprise you! This year’s Scavenger Hunt is a fun, educational exploration that the whole family will enjoy. Using the map and list of all 16 locations, explorers will need to visit each one and scan a QR code using your phone’s camera on the yard signs you find. Read more about the location on the linked page and then provide your name and email to log your visit. Once you’ve logged your 16 location, you will have won our Weston250 Summer Challenge Coin and a chance to win one of our special Scavenger Hunt prize bundles, which we will award by random drawings at the end of Summer Reading!  Email: librarydirector@westonct.gov when finished. Want to earn an extra entry into those drawings? A secret password is hidden amongst the linked location listings. SPECIAL TOWN MEETING

There will be a Special Town Meeting to authorize issuing debt in the amount of $1,400,000 for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) repairs at Hurlbutt Elementary School.    

 

PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING
June 17, 2026 at 6:30 pm
Hosted by CT Department of Transportation
A virtual public informational meeting for the project will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. This meeting aims to inform the community about the proposed project, gather feedback, and answer any questions. The proposed project (near Weston Woods Way) will consist of rehabilitating the existing retaining walls on Route 53—Nos. RW-157-053-001 & RW-157-053-002—with a tie-back wall system. The project will also include reconstructing the southbound shoulder to accommodate a wider shoulder and overlaying the section with new pavement. Maintenance and protection of traffic during construction will consist of alternating one-way traffic on the east side of the roadway, with temporary traffic barriers along Route 53, creating a work zone on the west side of the roadway. Right-of-way impacts are not anticipated.

Construction is anticipated to begin spring 2028, based on the availability of funding and approval of permits. The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $3 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 100% state funds.

FOOD SCRAPS RECYCLING PROGRAM
Since the program launched just over 2 years ago, we have 300 participating households, and we diverted 45 tons of food scraps from the Municipal Solid Waste collection! The success of this program shows the dedication our residents have towards a more sustainable community. Spring Compost Give Back
Time to collect your share of finished compost for participating in the program. 10 yards of compost has been delivered to the Transfer Station, to the right of the red recycling container. Each resident already signed up for the program can bring a 5-gallon bucket or equivalent container to collect their complimentary compost. Our program demonstrates the real potential of sustainable, circular-loop consumption.

Reminders
BioBag refill rolls are available for purchase at the Transfer Station office. Cost is $2 per roll of 25 bags. Many residents compost at home, and some use curbside composting services, but many still throw food scraps in with regular trash, burdening the Municipal Solid Waste Stream. Please share the link above with neighbors and friends to encourage them to register. 

 

EMERGENCY ALERTS
Please make sure that you and your family are registered to receive emergency alerts from the Weston Office of Emergency Management. Registration can be done online by visiting https://www.westonct.gov/our-community/community-alert-system-and-e-notifications. Weston’s Public Safety Team will continue to expertly guide us through storms by sending out texts, emails and automated phone calls via our Everbridge system. WESTPORT-WESTON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TASK FORCE
We’re excited to share to share that the Westport Domestic Violence Task Force has expanded and is now the Westport–Weston Domestic Violence Task Force.  This change reflects the work we’ve already been doing together across both towns and our shared commitment to supporting individuals and families impacted by domestic violence. This move is about strengthening collaboration, expanding access to resources, and increasing our ability to reach people who may need support but don’t always know where to turn. The Task Force works closely with the Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) to raise awareness, provide education, and support families through community drives and outreach efforts. This expanded partnership allows us to do that work more effectively and with greater reach across both communities. WESTON HUMAN SERVICES
Caregiving takes many forms. You might help with grocery shopping, drive to appointments, manage insurance calls, assist with personal care, or simply be the family coordinator. Caregiving can be both deeply rewarding and incredibly challenging—both feelings can be true at the same time. It’s normal to feel exhausted, overwhelmed, or unsure.  The good news is that support exists! Our Monthly Caregivers Support Group offers a safe and caring space to share your story, listen to others, and find comfort in knowing you are not alone. Together, we’ll share resources, offer tips, and explore self-care strategies. Join us every third Tuesday of the month from 1:30–2:30 p.m. at the Weston Senior Activities Center.   • Thrive with Movement with physical therapist Dr. Sachin Gianchandani, DPT, this hour-long exercise circuit class combines expert guidance with gentle, purposeful movement. Designed specifically for individuals with Parkinson’s, balance concerns, or mobility challenges, each class blends education and exercise to support strength and stability. All abilities are welcome. Classes are held Monday afternoons from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Weston Senior Center. To sign up, please call 203-222-2608.
  • Dial-A-Ride is a town service that provides transportation for Weston seniors (age 60 and above) and disabled residents to and from their homes. Transportation is provided Monday through Friday 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM (except town holidays). The service is used primarily for transportation to medical appointments (including dentist and therapy), in the towns of Westport, Norwalk, Georgetown, and Wilton. Appointments and cancellations are made by calling 203-222-2576 only (48 hours in advance). Please leave a message.

WESTON TOWN CENTER INTERSECTION & PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT (LOTCIP FUNDED)
The LOTCIP funded Town Center Intersection & Pedestrian Improvements Project has recently been awarded to Priority Landscaping, LLC and has begun construction. Improvements to be constructed as part of this project include:

  • Traffic signal improvements, addition of a right-turning lane on Weston Road (CT Route 53/57) at the intersection of School Rd.
  • Construction of approximately 800 linear feet of new sidewalk along Norfield Rd extending along the Town Hall frontage to Norfield Church.
  • Construction of new sidewalk and path connection, approximately 1,800 linear feet in length, along Revson field continuing down Lords Highway to the intersection of Old Hyde Rd.

These improvements will result in much desired pedestrian safety and traffic congestion improvements in the Weston Town Center area, including Town Schools, Municipal Buildings, the Town Library and other destinations within Town Center. As a reminder, the construction phase of this project, estimated as $1.87 million, is being funded with 100% state funds through the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (CT DOT) Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program (LOTCIP). VALLEY FORGE ROAD RECONSTRUCTION (FUTURE LOTCIP FUNDED)
The Town’s consultant, SLR, is currently working on preparing updated plans, including improvements to better align the intersections of Old Stagecoach Rd and Old Redding Rd at Valley Forge Rd. A revised application will also be prepared, with updated information on potential wetland impacts, has just been submitted to the Weston Conservation Commission. Town staff have met with many of the owners along the roadway to discuss their initial concerns and questions and while in-person meetings with abutting property owners have currently been put on hold, these meetings will resume upon resubmission of a wetlands permit application.  All property owners are reminded that they will be afforded the opportunity to meet and/or ask questions prior to granting any temporary rights to work on private property and construction activities beginning.  We appreciate the patience of all project abutters and if you have any specific concerns, you may contact Victoria Houle, Project Management Consultant for State and Federally Funded Projects, at wickedhoule@gmail.com.

WESTON LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS PRESENTS:
POLITICS & PIE

Politics and Pie annually provides our state elected officials an opportunity to present an overview of the latest legislative session and share their thoughts on its accomplishments, challenges, and ongoing issues. It simultaneously provides constituents with the opportunity to ask questions and share their concerns.  The event, moderated by Carol Baldwin, will feature a conversation with our 26th District State Senator Ceci Maher and 135th State Assembly District Representative Anne Hughes. It will take place on the Weston Public Library lawn; or, if the weather is inclement, in the Library Community Room.  Caterer Christina Mattinson will also be joining us at the event – as she has since the inauguration of Politics & Pie in 2022 – offering her sweet and savory hand & full-size pies and beverages for sale. www.lwvwestonct.org

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR TOWN BOARDS
The following appointed boards have positions available: Building Committee, Sustainable Weston, Veterans Affairs Committee. The Town of Weston Board of Selectmen will conduct interviews of candidates for appointed boards, commissions and committees in private, unless the candidate requests that the interview occur in public. Through the CT Freedom of Information Act, the state legislature expressly allows the Town Board of Selectmen to hold non-public executive sessions to discuss “the appointment, employment, performance, evaluation, health or dismissal of a public officer or employee." C.G.S. § 1-200 (6)(a). Like Weston, several nearby municipalities have also implemented similar policies to protect residents interested in volunteering their service from the abuse of modern technology such as artificial intelligence, social media, and personal identity theft.
